    I think you got my pun too – rugosus meaning wrinkled.

  2. I did try to hint that R.rugosa can have thuggish tendencies. It produces runners which seem can wander a considerable distance and if not controlled can be invasive. It’s not too bad if they appear in the grass then they can just be mown, but elsewhere can create problems. There may be cultivars which are better behaved. It is a lovely rose and I wouldn’t be without it, but it has been planted by the road in a spot where it can be contained.
